Controlled Engineering Solutions P/L has extensive experience providing electrical engineering for bridges. Our history in bridges dates back to 2008, so we have over a decade of experience. We primarily deliver automation & control solutions and adapt to the existing infrastructure on the bridge. We operate throughout Australia and New Zealand.

We have worked on public bridges, collaborating with the RMS and private contractors to deliver solutions with great consideration to traffic management (within the designated road closures), operators of the bridge and project management when working with other contractors (namely construction & refurbishment contractors).

After we completed our works on Swansea bridge, we were immediately engaged to provide programming for Batemans Bay, a fact we take great pride in.

Bridge use-case scenario

In the case of the Swansea bridge, we achieved the following functionality:

  1. Traffic lights turn red to stop the traffic
  2. The gate barrier lowers. This is also necessary for pedestrian traffic
  3. The pins that hold the bridge in place retract
  4. The hydraulic motors are energised to raise the bridge
  5. Once the bridge is raised, the pins again to ensure the bridge does not fall on passing yachts
  6. Change the lights to permit the boats to enter or leave Lake Macquarie
  7. Reverse the process to restore normal traffic flow
